     Gilbert F. Rice, 81, of Peoria, passed away at 1:05 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2016, at Heartland Health Care Center of Peoria.
     Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at Woodland Baptist Church in Peoria, with the Rev. Joel Newton officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, prior to services at church.
     Gilbert was born on March 20, 1935 in DuQuoin, a son of William and Josephine (Knapp) Rice. They preceded him in death, along with two sisters, Sally Pierce and Priscilla Webster, and two brothers, Delbert and Jim Rice. He married Darlene L. (Clark) on June 9, 1956. She survives.
     He is also survived by his sons, Randy (Karen) Rice of Flowermound, TX and Troy (Valerie) Rice of Peoria; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
     Gilbert was a member of Woodland Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, grafting fruit trees, reading and beekeeping. He retired, after thirty years of service, from Caterpillar Building LL in East Peoria and enjoyed thirty four years of retirement. For twelve years, he served as a Civil Defense Police Office with the City of Peoria.
     Memorial contributions may be made to the New Tribes Mission or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
     Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Clary Funeral Home, 3004 West Lake Avenue, in Peoria.
